Innocent Ujah Idibia, pka 2Baba has commissioned the multi-million naira ultra-modern digital and analog studio that he constructed, equipped and donated to the School of Music at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The commissioning event held on Tuesday, March 15th 2022.

In 2018, 2Baba was conferred with the fellowship of the school of music at OAU. He is the first-ever to receive a highly prestigious award from the school. As part of his commitment towards music and education in the school, and in the nation, he made a promise to provide a well-equipped studio for the school and has made good on his promise.

“I am delighted that this dream I had is a reality today, and I am able to support this generation in getting quality music education”, said the music icon.

The music studio is the first and only one of its class and capacity in any higher institution in Nigeria. 2Baba also acknowledged the contribution of some of his corporate partners who contributed towards the studio. He thanked Oraimo Nigeria, and Campari Nigeria, two organizations he has had a long-standing relationship with as brand ambassadors.
He also promised to replicate this kind of intervention in other schools across the nation.

The launch ceremony for the newly-built studio was hosted by the vice-chancellor of the university, Professor E.O. Ogunbodede, and was well attended by members of the university community.

The event, EargasmForCharity, was a well-attended and enyoyable evening of gorgeous music and exquisite dining which held at the Victoria Hall, EbonyLife Place, Victoria Island.

Notable faces at the event include the chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Billionnaire and socialite Olorogun Oscar Ibru, real estate entrepreneur and guru King Mohammed Adah (Ochacho), Oil and Gas mogul Peer Cole, real estate entrepreneur Ruth Obih, show-biz godfather Edi Lawani, MD/CEO HIV TrustFund of Nigeria, Dr. Jekwu Ozoemena, Architect and Entrepreneur Tonu Unu, Heineken’s head of premium and sessionable portfolio Sampson Oloche, Banker and Founder of Mees Palace Football Academy Emma Adakwu.

Others include ace award-winning comedian Basket Mouth, Silverbird Communications’s COO Bola Salako, Film maker and media entrepreneur Neville Sajere, popular comedian and musician EmmaOhMyGod, d well known witty comedian SLK, seasoned compere and comedian Richmond Osuji.

The event was hosted by legendary ace comedian Ali Baba, and co-hosted by leading Abuja-based MC and comedian MC Amana. It also featured cover band performances from Elixir Band, an exciting ‘switch’ saxophone performance by popular entertainment lawyer Justin Ige, and a afro-soul sensation Eleesha.

The event was staged to raise funds for The 2Baba Foundation’s educational and empowerment projects.

From December 1st to December 3rd 2021, Innocent Idibia pka 2Baba was in Kigali, Rwanda, to lend his voice, influence and funds to raising funds for Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees.y

The forum – 36 Million Solutions: Africa Private Sector Forum on Forced Displacement – which was organized by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was well attended by private sector professionals from all over the world. 2Baba spoke passionately about how committed he is to the plight of people who were forced to flee their homes due to conflict or natural disasters. He said,

“… However I am human. I am a father. A brother. A son. A friend. A neighbor. And I want to be these things to the people who are victims of conflicts and natural disasters, and have been forced to flee their homes. I am committed to playing my role in making this situation better. My appointment as goodwill ambassador for the UNHCR is one that I take very seriously. I am committed to helping raise funds and awareness for the cause of refugees and IDPs all over the world.”

Africa hosts the highest number of people forcibly displaced worldwide: 36 million people. These 36 million African people represent potential, possibility, and opportunity.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, today June 23rd 2020, announced the appointment of world-renowned musician, music producer and philanthropist, Innocent Ujah Idibia, known by his stage name 2Baba, as a Goodwill Ambassador. r

For the past three years, 2Baba has been a committed High-Level Supporter of UNHCR’s LuQuLuQu campaign – a pan-African movement of people from all walks of life investing in a better future for forcibly displaced people across the continent. In this role, he has dedicated his time to uplift the narrative of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDP) in Africa. In 2017, 2Baba visited IDP camps in north-eastern Nigeria’s Borno state.

“These families shared heart-breaking stories of watching loved ones being kidnapped or killed, forced to flee the comfort of their homes and leave everything they knew behind. I saw how they struggled to access basic things that we take for granted – like food, water, education and healthcare,” said 2Baba. “I witnessed UNHCR’s work firsthand during my visits and commend the organization for being on the frontlines, providing emergency relief and support to forcibly displaced families. I believe in this organization and I’m proud to be associated with UNHCR.”

2Baba is the first Nigerian to be appointed as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador. “Nigeria hosts 60,239 refugees in south east Nigeria and over 2.6 million internally displaced persons in north east Nigeria. With such staggering numbers of people forced to flee in Africa, 2Baba’s support and advocacy is instrumental for Nigeria and the continent,” said Chansa Kapaya, the UNHCR Representative in Nigeria. “We look forward to his continued incredible commitment.”

As an Afropop music legend, 2Baba has given his voice to refugee and IDP causes. In 2017 he wrote and recorded, Hold My Hand, a song dedication to internally displaced persons, which helped raise funds for UNHCR’s humanitarian response. He has also generously contributed personal funds to support refugee and IDP families in Africa, while continuing to use his celebrity status to raise awareness and support for UNHCR’s work.

“At a time when one percent of humanity has been forced to flee, we welcome 2Baba’s help in raising awareness and support for refugees and our cause,” said Dominique Hyde, UNHCR’s Director of External Relations. “We welcome 2Baba to the UNHCR family as a Goodwill Ambassador and commend him for being part of the movement challenging the narrative of the African refugee.”

The appointment of 2Baba comes as the world is facing unprecedented levels of forced displacement globally, with 79.5 million people forcibly displaced. More than 26.4 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa have been forced to flee their home, the largest number of displaced people in the world.
